The course is designed for surgeons as well as anaplastologists and other allied-health craniofacial prosthetic clinicians. The content of this course has appeal to those interested in physical and digital treatment planning, osseointegrated titanium implant surgical training and the art and science of osseointegrated implant retained facial prosthetics.

The IAA’s Advanced Osseointegrated Facial Implant Course is very different than any course ever offered in North America.  This course combines state-of-the-art treatment planning with the design fabrication of complex mid-facial prosthetics retained by osseointegrated magnetic systems.  All facets are taught by experienced world renowned instructors and invited speakers.

Here is what you can expect to learn by attending this training course:

  • Titanium Osseointegration Surgery  On Sunday March 27, 2011 lectures and video presentations cover important considerations for the surgeon when dealing with implant insertion.  Surgical demonstrations using actual bone and tissue models for placement of implants will be followed by hands-on training exercises for participants.
  • Team Treatment Planning  A panel discussion of a range of case studies will illustrate team planning issues for the nasal, orbital and auricular regions, with special reference to multi-defect cases.  Attendees will work with implant planning software which draws from the patient’s CT (computer tomography) data.  The planning software ensures optimal location and implant placement in good quality bone contributing to successful patient outcomes.  The digital surgical template is sent electronically to the team surgeon for approval to create a computer-generated RP surgical template for transferring planned implant sites with precision to the operating theatre.
  • Anaplastology Lectures and live demonstrations will illustrate the design and creation of prosthetic retention substructures for nasal, orbital and auricular regions using magnets.  Hands-on fabrication of an osseointegrated nasal prosthesis including wax sculpting, margin design, moldmaking and casting will be performed by participants using magnet retention components.  A wide range of materials will be discussed and demonstrated, including; multiple silicones, acrylics, substructure primers, silicone color matching and extrinsic coloration techniques, with opportunities for hands-on exercises.
