International Anaplastology Association
I would like to personally invite you to take part in the 31st annual meeting of the International Anaplastology Association (IAA) to be held June 14 – 17, 2017 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. This year our conference theme focuses on “Living in the Material World,” the evolving world of prosthetic rehabilitation. From enhancing understanding of how the materials we use to design and fabricate facial and somato prosthetics directly affect the lives of our patients to how our capabilities as anaplastologists and prosthetists empower our patients to be positively perceived in a world focused on beauty and perfection.
For 2017, our planning committee is putting together a new conference program format to allow for more interaction between conference attendees professionally and socially. Beginning with our preconference workshops on June 14th at the University of Minnesota Medical Device Center (MDC), registered attendees will have their choice to experience one or both:
Setting the tone of this year’s conference on Thursday is our keynote speaker, Dr. Mark Gilbert. A world-class portrait artist and researcher, Dr. Gilbert explores the interdisciplinary field of Art and Medicine. Through several commissioned projects he has created riveting visual portraits of patients, caregivers, caregiving and surgical procedures. His keynote address will be followed by the testimonial of Dr. James Van Arsdall, one of the patients, who will share how being a part of one of these projects helped him to accept his cancer diagnosis.
On Friday, we will delve into the future of 3D live printing with a new technology presentation by Dr. Venu Varanasi, assistant professor in biomedical sciences at Texas A&M College of Dentistry. Is there a future of possibly creating a bioengineered prosthesis by rebuilding the anatomy with a bio-active material?
And don’t forget Friday evening…be prepared for an 80’s flashback at the Annual Awards Banquet. Get footloose because girls (and guys) just wanna have fun! We are still finalizing the details of the Post Conference workshops to wrap up the conference on Saturday, but have listened to your feedback and plan to hold a CPR Certification course that morning.
The IAA is looking forward to seeing our international, multifaceted membership in Minneapolis and welcomes all who are interested in the fascinating field of anaplastology to attend!
See you soon in Minneapolis,
