2027 Dental Reviews–IAA Joint Conference

The Mayo Clinic Department of Dental Specialties and the International Anaplastology Association (IAA) are pleased to announce the 2027 Dental Reviews–IAA Joint Conference in Rochester, Minnesota, home of Mayo Clinic. This unique meeting brings together the shared commitment of both organizations to interdisciplinary education, collaboration, innovation, and patient-centered care, connecting professionals across dentistry, anaplastology, surgery, and other medical specialties. Through multidisciplinary perspectives, attendees will explore current practices, emerging technologies, and future opportunities in restorative, reconstructive, and rehabilitative care to advance function, appearance, quality of life, and comprehensive care for patients with complex needs.

PRE-CONFERENCE COURSE -  Thursday, April 15

May be taken as separate courses or as one, day-long course. The afternoon session builds on the physical model from the morning session.

AM SESSION: Orbital Prosthesis Deep Dive 

Led by certified clinical anaplastologists, Kaylee Dougherty of Boston Ocular and Michaela Calhoun of Prosthetics at Graphica Medica, this hands-on course will include a detailed review of eye anatomy, sculpting concepts, and tips for orbital prosthesis fitting and design. Participants will sculpt an oversized orbital prosthesis over a provided eye model and will take their work home.

PM SESSION: Mold Making Deep Dive 

The afternoon session will be led by artists and clinicians with backgrounds in fine art, special effects, and ocularistry and will focus on foundational principles of mold making, discussions and demonstrations of different mold making techniques, and digital mold design. Participants will fabricate a mold over their orbital sculpture utilizing a variety of techniques and materials. Those who did not participate in the morning session will be provided with an orbital model.

The International Anaplastology Association is pleased to announce that the Call for Abstracts is now open for the 2027 Annual Conference!

This year’s program will bring together professionals across anaplastology, dentistry, surgery, and other medical specialties with a shared focus on interdisciplinary education, collaboration, innovation, and patient-centered care. Presentations will explore current practices, emerging technologies, and future opportunities in restorative, reconstructive, and rehabilitative care.

We invite you to be part of the conversation. Presenting at the IAA Annual Conference is an opportunity to:

• Showcase innovative clinical techniques, research, and technologies to a multidisciplinary audience.
• Share meaningful case studies and patient outcomes that demonstrate the impact of your work.

A NOTE TO STUDENTS: This year, students are invited to participate in the Carr Symposium, featuring a printed poster session, selected five-minute podium presentations, and awards. The competition is open to dental clinicians, anaplastologist researchers, and others who are learners in an accredited training program. Abstracts for the Carr Symposium will be open to submission from December 1 – February 28th through the Mayo Clinic Dental Reviews website. More info here.
